Winning Start for Lee Ladies - NPL Tennis News

Lee Ladies got their season underway with an excellent win away versus Virgin Active Chiswick.  Chiswick 1 – Lee 3

A youthful team faced a mix of youth and experience in the Chiswick side who’s top player, Elisa Van Meeteran is currently ranked inside the top 100 players in the country.

Lining up for Lee were the experienced pair of April Brown & Kelly Burge and Chloe Efford & Rosie Harfield, who both still qualify for 18U tennis.

Lee took a lead in the tie, Brown & Burge seeing off the Chiswick first pair Van Meeteran & Jane Tucker, in a tight encounter 7-6, 7-5.  Efford & Harfield took a close first set 6-4 before pushing on to seal the rubber 6-4, 6-0 versus Janvika Patel & Joanne Pitman.

The tie was soon finished as Brown & Burge made light work of Patel & Pitman with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win.  Chiswick took a consolation rubber with a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline for Van Meeteran & Tucker against Efford & Harfield.

Queen’s Club too strong for Lee Men.  The team of Doyle & Rogers, Bradwell & Dan Eldred, who came in to the side, had the prestigious trip to the historic Queen’s Club, who were last year’s national runners-up.  There was a lot of good tennis played but Queens proved too solid with a combination of few errors and high calibre doubles to claim a 4-0 home victory.  It was still an excellent experience for the players and travelling support.

Not Yet No Place Like Home…

Lee Men hosted Canterbury for their first home fixture, using the indoor facilities at Portsmouth Tennis Centre, the match followed a similar pattern to the Campden Hill fixture.

Bradwell & Rogers, Doyle & Reeves had early opportunities but could not quite take the first sets and as the match progressed Canterbury became more dominant as Lee searched for inspiration.  Unfortunately, a comeback was not on the cards and the match finished with a 0-4 away win for a strong Canterbury team.

Thanks to our sponsors...... NIAL UK and Taps & Tubs who have helped to pay for team kit, the cost of courts for home fixtures and other costs of running the team.

There is still chance to get involved to help support the teams, look out for further fundraising events during the season.
