Mixed League Match News

A close encounter of the tennis kind.

I am claiming a 2-2 draw for Lee-2 mixed team vs Wickham and whilst the competition rules say we lost 29 games vs 35, I’m not accepting it.  Another victorious day for tennis with glorious sunshine and a great afternoon for players and spectators alike.  Pippa & Steve making their debut in team tennis fought bravely but alas strong players from Wickham won all.  They were somewhat dropped in the deep end by their Team Captain (me) who misread the good standard of players from a tiny Hampshire village I could barely find on the map.  Although losing all four sets, two were certainly a close game and the experience will be a bedrock for the future.  Luckily they are still talking to me and more importantly, still talking to one another (LoL).  Meanwhile, Barbara & Trevor showed their class & experience running out winners in their 4 sets, albeit a close 7-5, 6-4 rubber had the sell-out crowd on the edge of their seat.
Shot of the day goes to Barbara whose overhead smash rocketed into the opposition court for an unstoppable winner and with such a thunderous roar that Portsmouth coastal command put the Navy on stand by for a few moments.   Trevor played reliably & supportively as ever.  Well played to everyone and I also heard there was only one team winning in the post match tea & cake challenge.  My lips are sealed (unlike others ……..) to say no more.

NEXT MATCH is away to Southsea-2 on Sunday 29th May.

Practice matches will be at Club night this coming Friday 21st from 6pm.  Let’s hope for better weather and a good turn out.  All welcome whether seeking to play in the team or just for fun.
